engine transplant's in the mk4?

Post by cupra-dav »

as the title, what sort of engine can be put in the mk4?

i am close to buying a 1.0 mk4 with 52k on the clock...

just wanted to know what sort of engine to look out for? not wanting anything less that the 1.4 16v really....

so would things like the gti engine fit? wot would be required aswell?

maybe others....

cheers for the help!

there are quite a few engines that should fit mate

1.8 G60
1.3 G40
2.8 VR6
2.0 16v from ibiza gti
2.0 8v from ibiza gti
pretty sure the polo gti 1.6 16v should go aswell

nice, but not wanting the hastle of the vr6 etc, quite like the idea of the 1.6 16v, as i think it would keep some sense of the go-kart handling which it what i want after having the cupra!!! not goiod at all in the corners! lol

anyone know if the gti engine has been done before?

i'm pretty sure that the mk4 had a gti version in Germany with the 1.6 16v engine so it is possible (just remembered!)

its only really the 1.4 16v and the 1.6 16v will fit in without custom engine mounts and a load of hassle, if you are up for the challenge im sure the PD lumps from the golf will fit also the 1.8t fits with a bit of work.

i have a lot of respect towards pd lumps, they have moved on by miles in recent years... but im a petrol head...

as for the 1.8t, my cupra has this and ii find it to be very heavy front end, and not fun on the b roads....

1.6 gti lump is defo my choice... go kart with a bit of quickness... well a bit of speed anyway...
