longlife service indicator on - after 2k miles?!

I've recently got hold of a 1.9tdi sport, when I bought the car it had the service spanner flashing - even though it's 1 year and only 2k miles after the first service.

I only bought the car after I'd agreed the dealer sort out the service indicator. He said VW probably hadn't reset it and would sort it out.

So, after owning the car 10 days the spanner has come back on, saying it's due in 400 miles.

WTF?!

I don't understand how this could be, even if he'd just reset it normally himself.....

any ideas?
