i should have said that i want to retain the go-kart feel... which the polo has....

i have owned a cupra for a year know and know all to well about the k03s etc (since i had one ready to fit to the cupra)...

there is a 6n gti that is in germany fitted with the 1.6 16v engine.... so that conversion shouldnt be too bad.... i will be doin the work myself, so its only really going to be cost of an engine.... and the minor things....

today i have been thinking about the 1.4 16v and cam'ing that....

i will just have to wait and see....

*** a 1.8t in a polo would not handle worth a s**t, without extensive suspension upgrades....******

Im gettin a gti lump fitted, all i need 2 do is make a date to drop car off, can only do that when i find the cash for labour!

Its cost me £580 for engine and £500 fitting which doesnt include updating brakes!!! A 1.8T would of cost me a hell of a lot more.

Im having headached tryna raise the £500 for fitting, otherwise the gti lump which is sitting at my mechanics wud have been fitted a long time ago!

All I was saying was if you payed the like of JBS to do the conversion they would tell not to bother with the 1.6 and drop in 1.8T, I would have thought a 1L Polo wouldn't be drive by wire etc so needs a little work on the loom to get the GTI engine runing. You have a point that it takes suspension work to drop a 1.8T in a GTI however a 1L Polo with a GTI engine is also going to need the suspension replaced and brakes done, if you have ever attempted to stop a 1L Polo from 80 in a hurry you will know what I am talking about.

With my car I had a quote of £300 to do the mounts and was told (but can't confirm as it was never done) that they would have used Ibiza Cupra mounts in the same place to allow Cupra drive shafts to be used. My friend had already looked at the wiring and was willing to do it he had done the G60s wiring and reconned the 1.8T loom was harder to do but not too bad, I had a written off Ibiza R lined up for 2k which would have allowed me to put the 4 pots on the Polo also and by the time I flogged the R interior, wheels and dash etc and the Polo engine I recon it would have cost 1.5k for the conversion excluding uprating the suspension on the Polo where I would have slapped coil overs on, uprated the bushes and put MK2 Golf (apparently a straight fit) elbach anti roll bars back and front. In the end however I took the easy option and bought another quicker car.

A guy on seatcarforum took a written of 1.8T Cupra and dropped the whole lot including the interior into his 2L 16v Mk2 Ibiza and MADE money on the conversion by the time he sold on all the unneeded parts.

I'd probably rather save up for the new GTI than put a 1.8T in a 6N2. And I'd rather have a tuned N/A 1.6 than a 1.8T in my GTI :D
