They're right, your speedo will be out by a bit, as you're putting low-profile tyres on your car.

I'm not sure the size tyre on the Mk3 steelie, but it may be out by a few mph. Use this to find out how much your speedo will be when you put your new wheels on.

I had a check for you, and it isn't that bad:

With the new wheels, your speedo will be reading 2.9% too fast. For example, when your speedo reads 60mph, you'll be travelling 58.2mph.

Yeah, a 3% difference is perfectly fine, most speedometers aren't all that accurate anyway.
