RXII colour choices

Post by garnier »

I'm refurbing my wheels (RXIIs) over the next couple of weeks.

I'm hand polishing the rims and having the centres powder coated by a local place (CoatTec, Carnoustie).

He's going to powerder coat the centres any colour for £100. He also offered to do the polishing for an an extra £100. (I'd have to split the rims and remove the tyres).

I'm spoilt for choice colourwise, he has thousands available.

He suggested a black chrome, which I think would look good. Anthracite and gold are also on my list. What do you think? My car is black...

I think gold may look a little "tacky"

Black would match and look sweet imo

Agree about the gold there. Belongs on a rally Impreza and even then it's not too flattering in my opinion.

Anthracite is the popular and common choise.

Black again in my opinion would look good but as long as the black is the same as the car. I feel two blacks never look quite right.

Anthracite/gun-metal would be the one I would choose.

Does really depend on the colour of the car they're going on though.

Gold, as noted above, belongs on a WRC blue Subaru.

I'm going to fight for the Gold centres.

A lot of the Mk5 and Mk4 Golfs across the pond have gold, multipiece, cross spoke wheels, and I think they look pretty good.

Hmmm, white Mk5 GTI on Gold HRE's

I reckon Gold centres would suit a Polo GTI nicely. Black is a little played-out, and has been for a while now. All the wheel manufacturers are doing it at the moment. Anthracite could work, but I would prefer Gold centres and polished rims.

Ingenious like a negative of a white polo with black wheels. 8)

You'd need white wall tyres to really pull that off.

Id say yes to a white rim if I had a red Gti, but not on a black.

I do like the gold, I think Olllie is right and black centres is getting common. There's heaps of saxos with black spokes and silver rims going about. Gold centres on a black car is a bit more rare and has something old skool about it.....but then again the anthracite looks a lot more up-to-date and nice too.

How about sticking to the oringinal colour?

Also dont worry about black being common, its your car do what you think looks good.

That golf looks sweet btw

to be blunt black centered wheels are boring me now

shiny is good though goes fab against black and personally i quite like gold centered rims on black cars...

however the car would have to be completely black

no chrome badges or red bits just black, smooth with chrome lip, gold centre hmmmm

They look superb!

I think from the description they might be polished not chromed. Either way I like them a lot, something I did toy with the idea of doing with the set I'm refurbing.

They are super cool. Maybe a bit too bling for me. The more I think about it I think the gold is out. Think it will either be black chrome or anthracite, but I'll probably change my mind a million times before I put them in.

I had a failed attempt at separating the rims this afternoon. I started on the worst wheel, got all of the bolts loose except one which I couldnt budge. Ended up shearing the teeth on the frickin things. I'll need to drill them out and order up new bolts. So each one of the front wheels have a sheared bolt.

Bummer

Sheared bolts? Very annoying, I did that with the first set I refurbed. They're a pig to drill out as they're titanium. Since then I've used an impact driver to loosen the bolts before undoing them.

As for replacement bolts http://www.justmatz.co.uk/products_specials.html should be able to sort you out with some. I might actually have a couple spare from last time.

Cheers! Perfect timing, I was hunting for that link but couldnt find it, I knew I'd read it before somewhere. I think order 4 or 5 just incase I wreck some more.

My mate's dad has a garage at his house so I think I'll wait until I can get up there and use his tools. I'll go with the impact driver as well next time.

I thought it would be the multispline bit that would be more likely to get cheesed off, I managed to rip the teeth of the bolts pretty easily.
