Engine cover plastic

Post by garnier »

Put my BMC back on today after getting it back from a service, forgot how much I missed it not being on. Make such a difference in sound

To the point....the plastic cover that says 1.6 16V that sits on top of the rocker cover - does that need to be there? I can't see it serving any purpose at all. There is a little breather pipe that is part of the housing, but no idea what for.

Nah you can take it off any time.

Here is how my bay is looking after being valeted last weekend:

Incidentally, why did you have the BMC removed for a service?

Cool, that looks like my engine bay, only a lot cleaner!!

I've got a warranty with warranty direct, and it requires that to be valid, the car "must be serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and milage intervals". I though the service would include an air filter change, but it didn't, so it was a waste of time taking it off.

Can't help noticing but where did you get the metal bracket that wraps round the body of the BMC? Mine doesn't have that, and as I was fitting it I did think that it had a tendency to sag a bit too close to the injectors

The metal bracket round the BMC comes as part of the kit usually. Not sure if they're avaliable seperately though.

Just out of curiousity how difficult is it to fit a BMC and roughly how much?

Not sure how much they cost - mine was in the car when I bought it. It's a total doddle to fit - 20 minute job. All you need is some allen keys and a couple of screwdrivers.
