Wheel dilemma
Wheel dilemma
Having a few problems deciding what I want to do as far as my wheels/suspension are concerned.
I love my black and polished alloys to bits and they look great on the car, but the handling seems to have taken a bit of a downer since I've had them on. I've tried balancing and tracking and its still not right. I enjoy throwing my car round corners far too much and it jsut doesn't seem as responsive as it did with the BBS on.
My BBS wheels really need a refurb, and it annoys me that they don't have any dish as I love the euro look. However the better handling is making me want to put them back on the car once they are repainted and sell my black ones to pay for coilovers.
If anyone has any tips/reasons why the handling has been affected so badly with my aftermarket wheels, it would certainly help my decision!

I've got eagle F1's on my BBS and I've always been really impressed with those. Could it really be as simple as just the tyres?
I've been wondering whether they might need spigot rings as I didn't watch the guy fitting them but I know they didn't come with any and I can't think of many more reasons for the vibrations I get on the motorway.

Mine just seem to be a little unpredictable, its hard to describe but it doesn't seem as if I have as much control over the car as I did before. It has been better since I had the tracking and balancing done but I still get motorway vibrations and odd movements if i brake or accelerate hard.
I don't drive like a chav, but I do drive it the way you'd expect with a GTI, unfortunately recently I havn't trusted it as much as I used to and I'm a bit wary of it doing something unexpected!

Hmm i know what you mean Bryony. Are the new alloys wider than the BBS as this will make a difference as well as the style of the wheel?
The BBS have the spoke faces of the wheel right at the front where as the black ones have the dish and the spoke faces are set further into the alloys. This will affect the rolling weight of them - if that makes any sense to you?
Tyres will pay a big part as well, i have Bridgestone Turanza's on my Monty II's and they are awful compared to the Eagle F1 GSD3's on my old conturs.
