Hello - I'm New - Sort Of

Post by chickie_dee »

Hi there

I've been using this site for information for almost 3 years and this is the first time I've posted.

I've got a Black 3 door Polo GTi and I love it to bits. I've just paid off the loan so it's now mine all mine!!

Completely standard at present but the purpose of my post is to ask for advise on possibly my first "mod".

I know there's alot of info on wheels on the forum already but I really would appreicate advise / opinions from "the experts"

My BBS rims are ruined, despite me cleaning them every weekend rain, snow or shine they have deteriorated terribly over the last 6 months.

All four were replaced under warranty but as this has now expired I'm stuck at what to do.

I will need new tyres before long (currently running on Goodyear Eagle F1's) and so I'm torn between getting a completely different new set of rims or refurbing the BBS's.

What do you think? If a change what sort should I go for and if I went for 16's rather than 15's would this be a problem?

Thanks in advance - help a girlie in a dilemma please!

I really like the BBS on the Polo, they suit it really well.

So, my advice would be to get them refurbed or look for a set in 16" :D

Oh, and welcome to the site (now it's official)

I thought lurking for a year was bad before signing up ;) Welcome to the forum!

I was in the same dilemma. In the end I went for a set of 16" BBS RX's (non split version of the original wheel). Wheel refurbing is around £50 a wheel on average. The trouble is my local place asks to split them yourself before sending them to be refurbed, which is risky as the bolts are quite fragile. Refurbing gives you a lot of options though. Polished outer lip with a colour of your choice in the centre can look great 8)

I agree, the BBS on a Polo look superb. Refurbishment isn't cheap though, anything up to £300!

Thanks everyone and sorry I've been lurking for so long!

Looking like a refurb is my best option. I'd quite fancy a go at doing them myself but not sure I'd be good enough to get a good job.

How old is your car?
As the wheels were replaced under warranty were like for like (ie no improvments made!) you may be able to get a good will gesture from VWUK if the car is under 5 years old.

But personally, strip the wheels and remove the laqure and just polish the bear alloy.
You get a much better finish, and its easier to keep them looking good :)

Mine need refurbing already after kerbing 1, having 1 kerbed by the garage, and general wear and tear

I was on about my RXIIs (or maybe you already knew that? lol)

As for my RX's I've ordered a replacement wheel for my dodgy one now 'cause I got fed up of looking at it and trying to get a colour match.
Where did you order your replacement one from?

I need one too
