VW charging £92 for diagnostic

Post by polo TDI »

My polo is making a funny noise when it hits 2000 revs. i just phoned up VW to see if they could have a look and tell me what the problem is.
they said they would need to run a diagnostic and the it would cost me £92+VAT.

does anyone know of a garage in east london where i could get this done cheaper?

The £92 is made up of like £85 labour. London probably charges more than down south:p Total joke if you ask me!

Thanks Alex. you think is worth asking a corner garage?
the main reason i ask is because some months back the ABS light turned on, so i took it to my local garage and they charged me £125 to replace a single ABS sonsor.

i found this to be a massive sting as the part wasnt even an original VW part.

Ye id say get a local to check it out - if the worst comes to the worst, VW can fix it as they will ensure its done correctly. Another option you have is find a VW authorised dealer/service center. They offer the same quality of service, at a much much lower price :)

ok.. i might be asking a silly question, but do you have any idea how i find a VW authorised dealer/service centre? is it from the VW website?

right the noise. its when im driving. in 1st gear when i hit 2000 revs i can hear a slight ringing noise. but it goes away once iv changed into 2nd. then i can hear the noise again at about 3000 revs.

im pretty sure its coming from the engine.

it only started doing in the last month, and im a little worried that car is going to die on me.

right, got the Polo back form the garage... and guys what..
they thinks it the turbo unit (i disagree), and the to be certain they would have to open up the engin and the turbo unit.. slapping me with a £100 bill (he did highlight the word estimate).

im going to check out the gearbox oil tonight.. to see if that helps.

Arnold, can you please provide me with a direct link to what you think i need.. i didnt know it was possible to buy such diagnostic kits... my brother has a polo and a passat.. so this would probably be a good investment.

Thanks arnold,

will be checking that out soon.

Alex, any idea where i pour in the Gearbox oil.. i had a look yday eve and i cant see anything obvious.. or does that have to be done by a garage?

i even went to my local Library to find a haynes manual, but apparently there is no haynes manual for VW POLO 2000-2003 TDI.

how odd is that?
