Im so so glad im at uni, i do graphic communication and illustration and love it.

The thing is my tutors make me look at life in a whole new way, something i would be oblivious about if i hadnt have gone. Their enthusiasm has worn off on me, its not all about the qualification anymore.

I still live at home and drive to uni. My biggest biggest regret in my life, which sometimes makes me really down is that i didnt move away to uni. I should have gone to manchester with my friend and experienced it all. And it guts me to think i never ever have the chance to do that. Its too late, im in my 2nd year.

So think hard about what your passing up. You can 'start a business' at any age, going to uni when your 30 isnt the same.

went to uni, quit and got a job...

all my friends came out of uni with 12k more debt, a 1:1 / 2:1 and all work in the same kind of job on same money as me

a uni qualification is just a piece of paper and at times employers are more interested in what you can actually do than what u know about

its swings and roundabouts

ive a years worth of debt and wished i never even done that but hey you have to try these things to see what happens!

In a way I guess it depends what you value most, if your money orientated then maybe 3-4 (even 7 depending on your course) years worth of no money and then £12,000+ worth of debt (which you only have to pay back reaaaallllly gradually, although the so called 'inflation' interest is somewhat of a joke...) May not be the right path for you, also if you're the kind of person who doesnt like being told what to do....

If you're money and business minded then might be a better Idea to start your own business, work really really hard and end up with a money making machine and a flash car...

But if your in no rush and you like to learn and you value the kind of experince uni can give you (friends, indepedence, summer holidays, beer gardens, flat 'wars', cracker eating competitions, fancy dress, learning about what ever it is you want to learn about, placements in dif companies, oportunities to do internships to try out jobs....) then you could go for that, if you try you can easily (if you apply for enough) get a job that starts you at at least £15,000 straight from uni, then you can apply for graduate jobs for a year or less if your lucky and you can get yourself into a seriously good position with travel oportunities and experience in all fields within the company, thats what grad jobs are designed for. But getting one is seriously hard work, travelling all over for interviews and doing presentations and being watched while you work in groups etc.....which is why for all my friends that have gone for those jobs have taken about a year to get them..(and you cant really choose where you go either)..but once you are in them you are in serious business you'll start on 20-25 and they send you on courses and pay for you to do all kinds of sh1t....and qualify you aswell within a year or 2...

Which is why when i come back from mexico.....im going for one of those beasts....unless of course i enjoy mexico too much and just invest in a sombrero, a stray dog, and sit on my deck chair for the rest of enternity...which could well happen.

hehe!

Im in my last year now doing BSc Games Development & Artificial Intelligence. Lost interest in my course now, it's been under researched and underfunded and the lecturers half the time had no lesson structure what so ever. The reason being it was a new course when i started. Graduating next month and no idea what i want to do! And i have all the stress of doing a final year project and a 10,000 word write up!

i applied thsi year, doin my a2's this june
i applied to vet science which is one of the hardest ones to get onto. i could only apply to 4 and got straight rejections from edinburgh and nottingham.
i had an interview at liverpool but didnt get in coz i didnt know about greyhound racing(!?!?) and an interview at glasgow
i didnt get into glasgow but they have put me on some waiting list coz they want me but dont have enough places atm. i have to phone them on results day to tell them my grades.
thing is if i don't get in i have a job lined up for the next year as a vet nurse, i can get myself a car, save up some money and have a work free year and just enjoy myself and apply again next year (also goin to apply for zoology at bangor too just in case).
but on the other hand i think of the excessive amount of work ex i have done, the commitment i have shown to work x and school work and i think my god i should've got in!!
its a hard one
i think that you should apply the year after u do ur a levels, at least then you get chance to decide whether it really is for you or not, plus you have ur results etc
i think (def at my school) there's so much pressure put on you in this last year to do well in school as well as work, work ex and get teh grades!!
i can't wait to leave and i'm finding it hard to get focused on revsion

good luck in teh exams JoeG07

id say go go go! i am coming to the end of my first year and as many others have said its been the best year of my life! and its 3 or 4 years where you dont really have any worries the money you are borrowing is interest free and only repayable when your earning over 15000 a year!

1st year is a doddle not much work more partying than you can shake a big stick at and probably the best time you'll ever have! id say just dont grow up to soon have a few more years of care free ness!

its fair to say u do get a bit of work to do but everyone leaves it till last minute and its nothing like at school you can usually do an essay in a nigth before you go out!!

and if ur love is graphic design you dont even have to do exams, at my uni (sheffield hallam) you dont anyway!

mate, i would go, like the others say, and try your luck, as you said, if you have some money then the loss you make on dropping out can be covered, and you'll know you gave it a go.

im just sitting my A2s aswell, and like you, i just cant face the thought of another year of this, but lets be honest, the first year is essentially nothing, and im guessing uni will be such a difference from college,

i dunno about you, but im at Sixth Form College, so its like being in prison half the time

its up to you at the end of the day though mate, but you have some pretty sound advice from people on here...

good luck with the exams, if your like me, revision is less of a priority than checking the 'latest updates' on here! haha
