Polished RXII troubles

Post by garnier »

Has anyone attempted to polish their knackered RXII's as per the bstardchild guide?

I've spent hours and hours on one rim and the best I can get it is slightly shiny, but still kinda dull looking. The pics in the bstardchild guide look so shiny it's almost like chrome. I just can't get it, any ideas?

I'm almost tempted just to paint them

What stages of wet and dry did you go through?

Also have you used Autosol or anything on them yet?

I tend to find that you notice the biggest difference in finish when you use polish like Autosol. And even then it takes a good few applications and a fair bit of polishing to really get a good finish.

Clean looking but not shiny. You really think the autosolv make such a difference?

you need a finer grade IMO, that doesn't look like 1200 really. grades do vary depending on who makes them. go for a 1600 if you can, then autosol it. you doing it by hand or with a machine?

yeah, I can still see some slight scratches in, im sure there arent that deep cos the 1200 just seems to make more scratches. I'll try some 1600 and autosol tomorrow. That's if my hands are up to it

You deffo need to use some autosol to get a better finish than what you've got!

I bought a polishing kit from ebay for £12 inc postage. You get 3 polishing mops, 3 polishing compounds and an arbor to attach the mops to a hand held drill. Make life so much easier and a much better finish! I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow.

I'll find the link for the polishing kit aswell if ya want?

If you could post the link I'd appreciate it ...Just about to give my wheels a refurb and would prefer to use a drill kit....

Just type in polishing mops on the ebay search bar....there's quite a few different sets you can get!

Will post some pics of my rims later!
