So..... today I had my first collision

Post by Chally_Rai »

I crashed this morning....trying to get out a slip road....and the dude on the dually didnt let me out (who does that???the complete idiot.) so i had to brake and stop (its a stupidly short slip road onto a very busy dually esp at rush hour) which would have been ok except there were 2 cars behind me....

the guy behind stopped in time but the guy behind him hit him and then pushed the car behind me into me  Lum is fine. and so are her wheels (i had to scrape along the curb as i was braking to avoid the guy on the dually.

I feel wierd.

It also made me realise that if im in a big crash i have no idea what im supposed to do insurance wise...

Sorry Rach, at least you're OK (and Lum too)

I hate people like that, when they just wont let you on from a dual carriageway, there is just no need for it. Its either ignorance of them thinking "well I'm not letting you on" or they simply just cant drive and dont know what to do  - and then just cause an accident!

Hope you still got both their insurance details tho, and car reg's. I had an accident like that a few months ago (except I was the car in the middle), but he gave me a good wholop, so definetely caused some damage.

Is there any damage on Lum, even if you cant see any you should still get looked at (if you have got all insurance details that is)

hey gra....I didn't get any :( I didnt have a clue what to do, they were both business men on their way to work and they kinda talked to each other and then came over to me and asked if i was ok and i said yeah and they said what shall we do then? just leave it? and she looked fine....so i said yeah. plus cuz i breaked pretty fast i thought maybe it was my fault and just wanted to run away! i have no idea whos fault that would be? except the peugot 106 owner who flew off maybe?

But my colleague just came in and told me that my exhaust is looking very low and is it usually that low? it is usually low....but im wondering why she has noticed today. Im thinking maybe they knocked my paperclip style exhaust harness which ive been meaning to do something about :? I'll go and have a look in a bit.

Like i said i didnt know what to do! and i dont even know what details i need? and should i be carrying mine around with me?

and my wheels arent insured and i duno if that would void it anyway.

I want a duvet to crawl under

That's not your fault! If anyone can't stop because you've stopped then it's their fault.

You should claim for any damage and have a very close look. Best still is to let the guys settle out of insurance so no-one is affected.

Do you have the guy's contact details? In reality you should claim off the guy behind, and he claims off the guy behind him for both front and rear damage, and your damage!

Most importantly - you didn't do anything wrong.

Yeah Davids right. It would have been the bloke at the backs fault, as he either couldnt have been paying enough attention or was too close to car in front. He's also right about you claiming off guy in middle and then him claiming from guy at back. Thats what happened with me, the guy in from claimed off me, and my insurance company just passed it onto bloke at back.

I'm surprised that not even the guy in middle got any details from the guy at the back, as there must have been some damage on his if he was shunted forward.

Unfortunetely you're just going to have to put it down to lesson learnt, as if you didnt get ANY info, like a phone number or reg plate then there is nothing you can do other than pay for any damage yourself.

I couple of weeks ago my missus was going round one of those piddly pointless little roundabouts when someone pulled out on her so she had to stop suddenly and the car behind her hit her. Was only going smail pace, infact my missus didnt even know it happened untill the girl behind come up and knocked on the window. She didnt get any details either as she though everything was OK. Fortunetely there was no damage, but I still had a right go at for not getting any info  .

I'd go out and check it now, if you're allowed, just check underneath and lift the mat up at bottom of boot and see if there is any buckling by the spare wheel well.

I wish i had known it wasnt my fault....the guy behind me did actually look in the end guys car....I duno if they swapped details, how harsh is that if they did. I think one of my exhaust mounts (?)has gone missing well one of the botched bits of wire holding it up has....

It needed dealing with anyway....lets just hope i make it home :?

Not your fault, its the people behind you who were at fault. Its about stopping distances, they didnt leave enough room inbetween.

When you have a bump you should get a witness (not involved in the crash) get their address, get the people involved in the crashes address(es) and phone number. And the insurance company too. And if you can take some pictures!

hell no!

it was a light blue ford (maybe focus) behind and a big black estate thing behind him. they both my live in my village though to go down that road and they must go there each morning, ill leave at the same time monday maybe, i could even wait for them lol but theres no point, i dont want to go claiming this soon, plus i have the whole wheel thing which might make the whole thing void anyway.

I have decided to ring my insurance and tell them i have changed my wheels though, just in case something worse ever happens again...

I didnt think, i was a little shaken, which is why i didnt get away quicker after stopping, i could maybe have avoided getting hit if i had... my sole thought was, Run away!!! but i got out and spoke to them, so i kinda remember them, maybe ill have a chat to them if i see them in the local....lol

damage...seems a little hard to sort, but its not all that serious i dont think? mainly cosmetic...

damage update....

dent below right rear light.

inside boot behind rear light some crumpled metal where on the other side there is an inch gap.

right end of bumper corner shunted forward.
right corner of car kinda shunted forward....if you see what i mean (but not too obviously)

hrm.

basically hes nudge the right rear end of my car forward and rattled my already silly exhaust to the extreme...

similar thing happened to me couple months back, was in my old car, a Leon, and i stopped at a roundabout and this t**t slammed into the back of me. I didn't even break harsh. Luckily my Dad was in the car with me or i wouldn't have had a clue what to do! Other than get out and start shouting my head off...

Anyway, the front end of his silly Fiat was quite damaged, but the Leon was totally perfect! Still managed to claim off his insurance for a nice respary of my bumper lol. Reckon i need to tell insurance about my BMC anyone?

Well good luck getting it sorted and stuff, hope its not too much = ] btw, i think you have to tell your insurance company about it, even if your not claiming and it wasnt your fault, they just like to know, shouldnt affect the price though.
