It will fit but it certainly is not easy.....best getting on the phone to companies such as The phirm etc and they offer advice on what is needed etc, but it is alot of work......mounts for engine and gearbox, custom driveshafts etc, looms. Meant to be quite tough. Thats why one of the companies charge 7 grand to fit the 1.8turbo

My car is currently in the workshop having this conversion done (1.8T, 180 BHP with a 6-speed box). I was able to do the lion's share of work myself; this definietly helps keep the cost down. And yes, getting quoted OVER £7k by a certain company put me off too.
However, it CAN be done, and for a good deal less than shown above. Time is the main thing - the stripdown and rebuild are straightforward enough, it's the electrics that can be tricky. BUT - the most important thing is this: *Get as much stuff off the donor car as you can!* Engine, box, intercooler, pipes, turbocharger, looms, clocks, DEFINITELY the ECU. It makes things much, much easier.
If you want help just say, I'm more than happy to share my knowledge!
I'll whack some pictures on here as soon as I'm able to.

LOL er no, not yet!
It'll hopefully be completed in September by The Phirm, so not long to wait now.
Points worth noting: it's a tight squeeze in the bay. You've got about 4mm clearance on each side of the engine and that's all. Plus, you need to shave a small bit of metal off the master brake cylinder otherwise that is forced into the timing belt cover.
Most important is that you use a BAM engine - one with the throttle body nearest the passenger side of the car, and with the K04 turbo. This is because it has a side exit, making it an easy fit in the car. The K03 turbo has a bottom exit, which doesn't fit.
Downside - extra cost.
Upside - you've got a 225BHP engine that can easily be tuned to 250-300.
Hmmmmm
Anyway, I'll let you know when it's all done, and post some photos up as well.
Adios!
