Right, I think some of you here are confusing EDL and ESP which are not necessarily the same things.

EDL stands for Electronic Differential Lock. It monitors the driven wheels on a car via the ABS sensors, to determine if one of the wheels is spinning faster than the other, it applies the brake to that wheel. Essentially it's a form of traction control.

ESP is Electronic Stability Programme, which uses the ABS sensors, steering angle and yaw angle of the car to work out if it's being driven close to the limit of going into understeer or oversteer. It then either brakes individual wheels or reduces power to bring the car back into line.

As far as I am aware, the GTi does not have ESP. Having driven other cars with ESP fitted, and through various means getting the ESP to work in certain situations, if the GTi does have it then it's pretty useless.

Redline is right, the GTi has EDL but doesn't have ESP.

That colour concept in Aberdeen will be one of 300! Ultra rare especially that late registered
ESP doesnt come in a button its built in
Hmm that's weird. There is space for it in the blank switches. I know Richard (Harper) had a fake switch in his 8) So our cars already have it, it just can't be turned off?

nope its built in cant be turned off my mums golf has it

well mine is an Irish import, spec levels vary with mine being limited ie (no air con or climate) black door cards on a red car, but its right hand drive. oh it also don't have remote central, i was classed as the poor relation when i was last at a show but it only had 7000miles when i bought it.

but all these things make it lighter..... makes up for the bigger driver :P

Pretty sure all the Red GTi's have Black Doorcards - mine is a UK Car and is like this. Think it was because they thought with so much red it'd look wierd.

Possibly except mine. Which now has red door cards because I swapped them.

Talking about imports, apparently mine came from Jersey out of all places 8) and the spec is quite nice, everything bar the leather.
