Racing leads/plugs and tyre pressure.......

Post by Black16v »

Read somewhere on this forum about someone getting racing leads and plugs for their polo. Just wanted to find out more really....

What kind of gains do u get from it and are they worth the money? how much do they cost?

Also just a general question from someone who knows jack sh*t about cars. I've got 17 inch Falkens on my polo.........what tyre pressure should they be? they feel fine now and everything, just for future reference.....

Cheers!

Leads aren't worth getting, often aftermarket leads are worse than VW ones.

Plugs, I doubt you'll see any improvement either, especially not for the money.

17's? I'd stick 30-32 psi in them, what engine do you have?

that may have been me you are referring to good sir!

I ahve no idea if they will or wont actually improve anything as i personally havnt driven a car with them. However, my best mates did is a VW specialist mechanic with his own garage down brixton/peckham way (where i get all my stuff done) and he ahs currently got a 6N valver for sale. Think its sold now aswell...

Either way. Its got uprated leads and plugs on it and it goes like s**t of a shovel im told. He says theyve made quite a difference to the engine as hes had many valvers before now (he buys and sells cars aswell). So i figure sod it. Might be worth a go so yeh im gonna give ti a whirl. Mine only being an 8V im not sure how the cars gonna react. Probably not well lol.

Oh and to answer the above he has a 1.4 valver. Dont suppose you have any evidence to back your claims of them not being worth getting do you dude? Cause if you have got solid evidence i wouldnt mind savign my money lol.

what gains to expect? Next to nothing I would think. It's either sparking correctly or it's not.

I think perhaps his leads were shot before changing, plugs can improve fuel economy and how the petrol burns in the chamber and leads can give a better spark so perhaps under heavy fuel they can ignite better, but I've never heard of people specifically changing leads for more bhp

I never expected it to gain bhp from it lol. Where did i say that??

I assume theyd just assist your engine in running better while your ragging the arse of it or something. Oh well. Sod knows youll have my verdict once ive done it (looks to eb a while yet mind). Even if they do nothing ill still have some nice red or blue leads to make the engine bay more prettyful lol.

I just gathered from what you said there about it going like sh*t off a shovel was a result of his car now having the uprated plugs and leads. perhaps i just took it the wrong way! lol!

Anyways like you said, at least your engine bay will be looking good!

Lol perhaps. Maybe your mates original plugs and leads needed changing anyway or something, then once he got the new ones put in, the car ran smoother and he got better performance out of it?

well its might my mates dad who has it, hes a volkswagen specialist mechanic. he bought it to sell on. It was him who told me its rapid... Said its quicker then the other 16v's hes had and all its got done to it is racing sparks and leads.

Maybe it was just a better built engine, lower mileage less ragged? I dont know. Ill leave it to experience to dictate whether or not there is any truth to it. Only way too truly know anything is to try right? So sod it, im gonna try anyway lol.
