I have one in my Silver gti. I too was wary of damaging my windscreen, so paid my local Autoglass depot a visit and a technician swapped it over, for cash in hand.
I personally think it makes a vast visual difference when viewing the car from the outside:

You could just dye the interior roof lining etc black.....and spray the plastic bits black. Didnt jarno spray his plastic bits black.

mine came with one, looks like a aftermarket one with a sensor on the bottom, i think this is for automatic dimming of headlights behind

I fitted a 6n mirror first, but it didn't look right, wrong shape. So i fitted a 9n one! Mucho better!

Do you have a part number for the black 9n mirror? VW can never find it when i ask (have tried a few dealers now)
