Anyhow here is my answer, might take a few minutes, grap a cup of tea Smile
The long and the short of it is that it wouldnt b too hard, except for the details.
1. Getting a different alarm fitted is generally quite expensive, without an alarm a good (and only go good or your panels will rattle forever as the A frame has to come out) audio fitter will charge 60-70, with a full alarm expect to pay 100+ plus the cost of the alarm.
2. If the alarm is on the same frequency, i think 434mHZ then calibrating should be simple Enough, assuming that the alarm uses the same protocol. Sadly that is a BIG assumption to make, as few will!
3. Imobilizer chips are interesting, no one can fake them! they are individually designed, and all paired to the car (each of your cars keys has a different transponder, but the car remembers all of them). They can be removed from the old key and fitted into the new one, there is a step by step guide in the DIY section on this.
4. Keys, there is a step by step on transfering your old key to a flip type. This is better than going to a key cutters as they will do a **** job, without fail! the cars are very German, and in being so everything fits perfectly. The keys in the factory are designed by a CNC (computer numerically controlled) mill, and then paired with transponder chip, no bloke in a Timposons store can replicate this. The best you will get will be a key that feels like a saw when it goes in the barrell, the worst you will destroy your ignition barrell!
5. In short if you want to fit an alarm an use a VW keyfob i would go to a VW dealer and ask for a retro-fitted alarm, some will do it, although from what i tell it is not cheap. Check with them but i think with an alarm they give you flip keys, with RCL they give you an ugly alien looking keyfob, you don't want that!
My whole job, and i got a pro who was wiring bose in a new audi TT when i met him cost me 65 for install and 25 for the RCL (with 2 keyfobs) and then i converted the existing keys to fit into the fobs, and the system works a charm. Oh and i moved the imobiliser chips accross with system involving duct tap in the new key (technical!).
