My Polo certainly never had ESP, heres a interesting video on how it works and what happens when its turned off !Redline wrote:Right, I think some of you here are confusing EDL and ESP which are not necessarily the same things.
EDL stands for Electronic Differential Lock. It monitors the driven wheels on a car via the ABS sensors, to determine if one of the wheels is spinning faster than the other, it applies the brake to that wheel. Essentially it's a form of traction control.
ESP is Electronic Stability Programme, which uses the ABS sensors, steering angle and yaw angle of the car to work out if it's being driven close to the limit of going into understeer or oversteer. It then either brakes individual wheels or reduces power to bring the car back into line.
As far as I am aware, the GTi does not have ESP. Having driven other cars with ESP fitted, and through various means getting the ESP to work in certain situations, if the GTi does have it then it's pretty useless.
