Hi,
I insured my car at the beginning of the year and was asked for an estimated annual mileage. I quoted this as a low figure, but have now left school and will be commuting about 50 miles per day, so about 12000 miles a year. Since the figure was an estimate at the time, I am doing nothing wrong, but it is also a change in circumstances (and perhaps use). I paid just over a grand at the beginning of the year, and really don't want to give these crooks any more of my hard earned, but am not keen to be refused a claim if required. So, anybody got any advice/experience on the matter?
Thanks, GingerGogs

there is no evidence that you've done 12k in the last year as you dont give the cars milage when you take out the policy
just make sure they dont see your mot certificate
dont quote me on this but im sure this estimated milage is just a total rough guide so they know how often you're on the roads and it should really only apply to top end high priced cars where they'd have the break the bank to pay out

two things i thought might something baring in mind is that, if the car was brought brand new then the millage when you got the car would be listed on the form that you send to DVLA.
Also if you crash and cause £300 damage to another car then the insurance company would probably not look into it to much. Although haevan forbids you knocked someone down and it was costing the insurance company thousends then they will always try to get out of paying including checking all paperwork, Becuase at the end of the day who wouldn't get out of paying $$$ if they can.
On the flipside do remember what the other people have already said about it being a rough guide, phone up a random insurance company and ask the views about the estimated millage?

I would tell them, there is always the possibility if somehow they did find out how many miles the car was doing, it doesn't mean you drove them all. For example sometimes my parents drive my car, their insurance covers them so its nothing to do with mine even if the car does do more than the 'estimate' I don't (well not yet anyway).
