Door card handles

Post by 1 GTI »

Im sure the topic has been brought up before, but where's the cheapest place to get the door handles for the GTI? Mine have started to peel quite bad and it's really annoying me now. Anybody know how much they cost aswell? Also how much is the sunglasses holder to replace the drivers handle above the head? Cheers people

I don't think they are that much from the dealers.

Sunglasses holder should be something like £15 I think, from memory.

Or you could email/ring VAG Parts. Or ask your local VW dealer to confirm it.

Im wanting to replace my handles aswell, do you need to remove the whole door card to do so though?

Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, its the black handle not the silver one used to open the door (sorry for sounding thick lol) just a couple of quid seems cheap!

thanks! :D

Ive been trying to explain the exact same thing!! as everyone thinks u mean the exterior handle or the door pull!! bue yeah its the black bit.

Not looked at mine yet but they normally just unscrew if you pop off the black stick, dont need to remove door cards.

Mine are doing the exact same thing with the peeling, looks nasty! If they aren't too expensive I'll be buying some more, although I imagine the same thing will just happen again!

We are talking bout grab handles on inside of door...

2 pieces

1st piece id the face....the centre bit you see when lookin straight at the door.this unclips with a small flat screwdriver behind it (reveals 2 screws to take off doorcard)

These are £2-£5 from dealers each inc VAT

2nd piece is the remaining handle....yes you need to remove the door card. Undo the 2 screws mentioned above plus a X head near tweeter housing.....then unclip all button clips around door. BE CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING DOORCARD - TAKE CARE AROUND CHROME HANDLE AND DOOR PIN -- ALSO WATCH THE WIRES FOR THE WINDOWS, ALARM LED AT DOOR PIN AND MIRROR ADJUSTER ON DRIVERS SIDE

There are 4 or 5 screws on the rear that allows the remaining handle to come off.

These are £20 approx inc VAT

All dealer prices

Hope this helps

I've been quoted from VW £2.95 + vat for passenger handle and i think it was £9.87+vat for drivers side.. seem far too cheap to me to be the correct part though!
