If it's a flip key with remote c/l then you'll probably be looking at somewhere between £100-£140 all in from VW.

hmm, if I can get one for under £150, I might have to buy a spare. I've only got one.

Hey, I had my key replaced. I had a standard Central locking key, with no remote. I was quoted £100+ from the dealers, but I thought it was too expensive. I bought an uncut OEM key from ebay, (think their ebay user name was VAG PARTS from HK..?) Got an uncut key WITH transponder for around £20, cutting the key needs special equipment or something, and not all ordinary key cutters are able to do this. I had this cut from a recommended key specialist cut for £15, then VW charged me around £30 for programming the immobiliser. This route is abit of a hassle but much cheaper. Dan

if someone near you has a vag-com you can program in new keys (transponder chips) with it in the Golf, so i presume the same is true for the Polo, but you can check with ross-tech. The keys you can get cut for quite cheap if price is an issue, I got one done at timpsons for a fiver, and whilst his first attempt was poor after about 4 attemps he got it all smooth, and it was alright (still only charged £5).

cheers, where would i find someone with a vag.com near me? its just that i think £80-£100 for a key is daylight robbery to be honest.. esp if the keys are like £5.. cant i get a transponder key blank cut and take it to VW to get it programmed surely that would be cheaper than them ordering one for me at like £50 then programming it?

eventually i want remote central locking, but atm i only have 1 key and i aint loosing that.. (touching wood) :o)

get a blank key off ebay and timpsons can cut it for you for about £7 mate. i got a transponder of the net (sorry cant remember the name of the shop) for my seat leon (same little glass transponder as all vw's, audi's etc), but i had a key fob which made programming really easy. couldnt tell you for definate what to do if its just a key, but you def dont have to pay stupid dealer prices to get it matched. Try speaking to a local auto electrician and they can usually do it for a lot less. Ross tech have loads of useful info so have a gander on there. Hope this helps
