Polo MKIII Immobiliser

Post by rhinothing »

Hi all,

I need some help. I'm interested in buying a VW Polo, P Reg, 1997, 999cc engine, 3 door hatchback but am not sure if it has an immobiliser your not.

Sure there's no right or wrong answer, but if someone could let me know the general rule of the thumb I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Rhino

First off if its a '97 P then it'll be a mk4 aka 6n Polo.
As far as I know all the mk4's had an imobiliser after they changed to the newer engines... after '95ish. I'd suggest checking the reg/ engine code with a dealer. I think it'll be AER or ALL engine code. Engine code should be on the sticker inside the boot.

Hope this helps,
Steve

yea mate should have one. you should be able to test it and there should be a flashing light next to the hazard lights switch...

yours is a polo 6n. this is a mkIII but commonly referred to as a MkIV..... but say 6n as this cant be confused

There's no flashing light for the imobiliser on any of the mk4's I've seen, there maybe on the newer mk4 98 onwards though.
