Where to get springs + shocks fitted?

Post by Bryony84 »

Picked up 2nd hand suspension on Sunday and need to get it fitted now, any ideas what kinds of garage would be best to do this, I'm fairly clueless about where to go!

on the 2 cars i've had lowered so far, i have used dealers both times. they were both more than happy to do the work for me and they also guarantee their work, well at least i think they do :?

when i got Seat to fit my coilovers, the 2 blokes that did it had both fitted coils to their cars so they knew exactly what they were doing!

any garage should be happy to do it and guarantee the work

check about getting the tracking and camber done, i found alot of places couldnt do both

i had three lots of quotes - garages that could do everything, garages to lower and then tyre places that could track and camber

personally i wouldnt touch a dealer - but thats just my opinion

i also asked round the lads to find out who they trusted and who they didnt

When I went to my local VW they quoted me £500 and they also told me they needed the car for 2 days, needless to say I when to a local garage that charged me £120 and did it in 2 hours.

Best bet is to check yellow pages for local garage they shouldn't go over the £170 mark

Yup, assuming I can afford to get it fitted, I was quoted £200 by a local garage! Think I might be smiling sweetly at my bf to see if he'll help me do it myself, he's a coach mechanic so he has access to a large workshop and seems to have every tool ever invented!

£200

It only cost me £50 to have my coilovers fitted (took them an hour)

Thats what I thought - was never considering using them at that price though!
Apparently one of my bf's colleague has some spring compressors so we're going to have a go at doing it ourselves in his workshop on sunday! Will let everyone know how it goes!

You expect it at a main dealer though Dan, we all know what they're like - bloody money grabbers

but as i said i was quite happy for them to do the work, as u've said before Tom, you don't mind paying slightly more if you get a good job done.
and even when i needed them adjusted before E38 last year, they said just bring it over and we'll do it, won't take long!

they never let me down and are never tired of my constant need to fix the noises (that hollie thinks are in my head)
its how main dealers should be......although they are a family run business and aren't actually a main dealer anymore.

I totally agree, you're excatly right Dan I don't mind paying a lot of money out for a good job (as I have done many of times and will continue to do )

I'll hopefully be spending next months wages on the car as well
