Electric Window motor clicking?? Try this - (long story)

Post by bhp addict »

i brought the car with broken drivers electric window. So many people told me they had the same problem with the motor 'clicking' but not working. Since this I have spend a total of 16 man hours, 1 new motor, 1 new switch, new wiring between switch and motor with new plugs and connectors and tested almost every wire from car to door for continuety (sp)

After all this my Drivers side window would still not work!!!!!

I was at the point of puting my fist straight through the glass when I was told to check the relay (fuses checked on day 1)

So.....I continued to strip down the dash (bottom half) and pull out each one and check all wiring behind them. (loads of wires - very little space with head on pedals).........but still - no joy

At 6.45 last night i sat back and stared at the door - the car was in pieces and I could not be bothered to do anything else.

Finally, I checked the plug/wiring in the door shut..........I pulled the plug out and everything was fine....I pulled the rubber boot off and there it was...............................the nightmare that had been taunting me since I brought the car...............

....The EARTH SPADE CONNECTOR HAD SNAPPED OFF INSIDE THE PLUG AND WAS SITTING HALF WAY DOWN THE RUBBER BOOT !!!!!!!

After pulling the earth (brown) back inside the door and earthing it to the frame I clicked the switch and THE WINDOW MOVED !!!!!

Moral of the story - if motor is clicking it means there is power but no earth....check from the door shut to the window motor.

Good Luck and I hope this has helped someone and avoided unecessary spending / time.

yip the same happened to me , i was beat couldt find the problem. the car was just about to go into vw to get them to find the fault, when i did a search on here for previous faults. i came across one saying check the wiring from the door to the car buy pulling back the rubber protector.

i pulled it back to find the brown wire split in 2 and the black one had frayed.

the window has now never worked better
