Claiming Against Council

Post by GTILass »

Random question here

Has anyone tried claiming off the council about poor road surfaces?

The reason i ask is last night while tryin to drop a friend home i had to enter a pot hole (poo roads, traffic etc).....this hole was that extreme not only did i catch my exhaust but i mutilated my rear wheel on the kerb at the same time! (pot hole dropped down at dodgy angle to kerb)

Now my friend instantly showed up at my house with a camera and took photos - he suggests i send them off with pictures of this pothole and receipt of repairs to the council to try and claim for it

he insists people do it....

anyone know of anyone or has done this?

i'd make sure you get some decent pictures of the pothole that caused the damage, i've heard of councils filling them in straight away when a damage claim is pending!

I agree with Alun, the worst they can say is no :D

I'm sure if the people on tele who slipped over accidently on purpose can do it you can with a genuine accident.

from what i've been told in the past is that the pothole has to be reported to the council, before it can be claimed against
they need to be aware of the problem before they can be held liable for damage to a car
this could vary from council to council as above

Lol although a bit off topic, on my old car some t**t drove into the back of me, there was no real damage but thaught may as well get the scratch taken out as it was all payed 4 by his insurance. Anyway the body shop said as your not paying, may as well take off the bumper and resprary the whole bumper do it properly. So i said well if your taking it off and respraying the whole thing, can you do that to a new bumper as its still the same work? They agreed- I baught a new rear bumper and got it sprayed and fitted for free at the expense of some other pillock!
