Is everyone selling?

Post by Ant_43 »

Looking at some recent posts i notice there are a lot of people currently selling their gtis. This made me curious: i hardly ever see another one, and they are quite well known for being a rare car. So i have just checked autotrader uk, and see that there are 5 or 6 within 40 miles of my house (2 of them being within 8 miles), whereas just a couple of months ago there were none!

What's going on! Is everyone getting rid of them? Has the 6n2 Polo gti now become an unreliable car due to things like the gearbox issues (of which i've had to deal with!)? Or has it been replaced with the new Polo gti?

I have been thinking of selling up recently, and getting either a corrado vr6 or a mk1 caddy (2 very different directions i know)! I do love the little polo, but this recent increase in selling and the gearbox worries only make me want to sell more.

What does everyone think?

To be fair there's always been a relatively steady flow of people buying and selling them whilst I've been on here.

I don't think i'd even get a grand for mine in its current state, so i'll hang on to mine for a little while longer!

I'm keeping mine, mostly because I want an r32 as my next car and I can't afford the insurance yet!

Mines staying for the forseeable future. Got no spare money to upgrade, only £135 to pay and the loan on it is gone. More important things to spend money on at the moment.

Also I really dont know what I fancy as a next car.

I've had mine 6 months now and totally loving it, going to keep it for a few years until my sharesave scheme hopefully pays out lots and probably get an R32 (quite the popular upgrade from a 6n2 so it seems!).

only prob i've had so far are ..

drivers side window faulty (free on warranty)
rear bulb blown (free by VW!)
CV joint faulty (£88)

and thats it!

There are a few for sale yet I live in B'ham (poss 2nd capital) and had to travel to Nottingham, Blackpool, Slough and eventually Sheffield to get 1 I liked lol.

I'll be keeping mine another 2/3 years before moving onto a Mk4 R32/Mk5 Golf GTI or even a Polo GTI Cup if I found an imported one

mines currently highly polished and being admired by the people who check out my mums golf gti thats for sale

if i got offered the right amount of cash...id sell

it appears that cars tend to sell when they hit the 4/5/6 year old period as people wanna go back to not paying anything out and upgrading to new ones (hence my mums golfs for sale!)

I've just purchased one after and 10 weeks of searching and finding high mileage, mods not to my taste and just plain unloved :( The nearest one to me has been Bournemouth which is about 80 miles but sadly he wanted more than i wanted to pay with 62k on the clock..

So i'm off to Kings Lynn this week which is about a 380 mile round trip to pick my first polo gti up. Ive just sold my clio 172 sport and am hoping i'm going to love a better built car :)
