Smelly aircon?

Post by JKM_GTI »

When my aircon is on cold is stinks of egg!! The funny thing is it goes away after a few minutes...

Any ideas what it could be?

Have u changed your pollen filter? sometimes they get dirty and can give off a smell.. or maybe the unit needs regassing.

You should try and use your air con every month even if its not warm as its cleans out the system.

Yeah it gets used a lot - I was thinking it could be a reminder the gas is low (works well if it is!!)

As noted above, in generally means it needs servicing/regassing. Bacteria and other crap can build up in the system which is what causes the bad smell.

if you contact an air con co, they should be able to spray a disinfectant spray into the system, to kill off any "eggy" bacteria. smells a bit for a while but worth doing. mercs do it for a pass time. need to get mine done!

You can get a sterilising aerosol from Ebay for less than £10 which is dead easy to use and neuralises any nasty smells. Why pay someone £30 to do the same
