9N3 GTI Radio

Post by gary87 »

Does anyone know if these will just plug and play with the standard set up for a 9N?

They should do. You'll need the right radio cage to hold it in (ask vagparts). And the sockets should be the same.

Im right in saying the 9n had a BETA/GAMMA radio.

I beleive it wont work with a 9n3 radio as these models changed the rear connectors to something called CANBUS. Completely different kettle of fish compared to the BETA set of connectors, so you might be a bit stuck there!

I've had a delve on the internet and can't really pinpoint this. The CAN-BUS system is in Passats from 2002 onwards but this doesn't really help as my Passat had the Gamma HU. There are numerous converters to convert CAN-BUS signals to analogue to fit aftermarket HUs for navigation and so on.

There looks to be adaptors to allow an aftermarker HU to be put into a CAN-BUS system, I'd have thought that someone out there has managed this!
