Another Smooth Bumper Question

The one that done the front charged a little over Â£500.

That was to smooth it, smooth the splitter into the bumper and paint it.

One thing I do know is they started above the rub strip and curved it down to the lower grilles, instead of just filling the recess.

That was Northeast Autobodies I think in Tullos. Paint Technik were the crap ones - quoted Â£250 just to spray the front bumper without smoothing and he said he was the cheapest in Aberdeen

I really need my car ready for Polo Show, only got 2 months and a lot of bodyshops are booked up well in advance

So is Fibreglass on its own good or not? One guy at a bodyshop said so. There is a guy at my Dads work who says there are 4 types of Fibreglass and the strongest involves filling with fibreglass, sanding down, applying some kind of strengtening agent then more fibreglass. It shouldn't crack over time unless it's had an impact. But some people are saying Fibreglass is crap?

i was told not to fill or fiberglass solely

i was quoted for plastic welding and it worked out Â£600 front and back (but that included a few other bits too)

A lot of the work done on cars is fibreglass and filler, if you look at Phil's car, when he hit the Civic and the bumper cracked, that was due to fibreglass cracking on impact, so I can only presume his bumpers are done with fibreglass and filler. I'm pretty sure that Tomo's bumpers are fibreglass as well as you can see the marks on the bumper where the paint is uneven on the front bumper, a bad characteristic of using fibreglass, if it was plastic welded that wouldn't have happened. Although a very good bodyshop would be able to use fibreglass to a point where such things don't happen, but plastic welding is extremely advised

Right I'll be set on plastic welding then. 1st gonna phone round Aberdeen bodyshops, then ask a few contacts what they can do if anything, and third (which I'd like to avoid) is send both bumpers away to get done
