Which air filter? What sound?
I'm looking for an air filter for my GTi that gives it a nice sporty sound when accelerating, but won't sound like a jet engine when driving down the morotway (i had an A/M exhaust on my old car and it was just horrible driving long distances), BMC sounds a bit pricy and loud, am i wrong? whats the K&N cone like?
BMC all the way!!
The BMC isn’t loud when driving under 3,000 revs but gives you a nice subtle growl over 4,000 revs
, they aren’t that expensive if you looks around some websites, I picked up mine from eBay for £120 brand spanking new
Just keep an eye on the classifieds on uk-polos and clubpolo sometimes they come up.

1.4 16v here just remember you'll need to get silicone 90 degree bend and breather filter with 16mm neck.colour_concept wrote: also looking at getting a bmc, for a 1.4 16v 75bhp of course.
wheres the cheapest place to get them?
1.6 CDA 70-130 here (It say lupo GTI but the polo as the same engine as the lupo) we'll need the same silicone 90 degree bend and breather filter with 16mm neck.
Those are the only ones that I that are cheap at the moment.

To be honest, induction kits don't make too much difference with regards to power increase. They will produce a noticeable decrease in power though if not set up correctly. My cold air feed supplied deteriorated and I felt a loss of power. My 0-60 was 8.3 seconds before and I timed it with the crap air feed and it dropped to 9 seconds!. Now I've got a good air feed it's back down to 8.3
k and N apollo, great sound and it does seem to give a kick the car's accleeration, you notice that it quickly revs up to the red line when it is fitted and I found no decrease in mpg. Estimate about 4 bhp increase - not big increase, but it does rev a lot better. You need to put the cold air feed down the gap on the RHS of the engine - almost the middle and make a hole in the sump guard - no problems with hot air down there and you don't seem to pick up that much dirt and flies etc. Cost about £150.

for general motorway use mine is relatively quiet, if you nail it it give a very nice roar though I used a 12mm breather filter on my GTi as that fits nicely inside the breather pipe without any additional materials. both kits are the same except for the 1.4 16v needs the 16mm breather rather than the 12mm..colour_concept wrote:IIRC k&n kits actually draw in hot air due to the poor placement design of the polos engine... bmc's overcome this with the heatsheild.
also looking at getting a bmc, for a 1.4 16v 75bhp of course.

i can do the BMC + 90 degree bend + breather filter for £160 delivered (if anyone wants one with the 16mm breather just put a comment against the order on the shipping/payment page)
