Coilovers fitted now theres a knocking noise!!!

Post by J-GTi »

Hi all,

Ok I fitted my coilies yesterday (FK Highsports) which all went fine 8)

Car looks great and handles great BUT theres a knocking sound when you turn the wheel which almost sounds like the springs turning it only seems to happen when I'm standing still and turning the wheel or moving very slowly :?

Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be??

Nothing to worry about mate, its just the stress that the springs are on iirc, but like i say nothing to worry about, mine does it! i have had mine on for a year!

Did you lubricate the threaded part of the shock? Also, the noise is the spring turning; well I think. It would be a good idea to spray some chain wax around the spring and the threaded body, and see whether the noise is gone.

Something like this is good, and another advantage is that it helps prevent the threads from corroding.

I've heard this is common with these coilies and nothing to worry about. But I guess there must be a fix for it somehow

i had the very same noise that sounded like the spring bein wound up when turning.

i had it pretty low at the time too with FK coilovers, i wasnt too worried about the noise at the time.

a week later, i jacked the car up, raised every corner by 2 turns on the threads, took car for a drive again and the noise for some strange reason had disappeared! i didnt even remove anything or spray anything!

i later again, lowered it by about 5 turns all round with still no sound of spring wind up but i did however hear the anti-roll bar knocking on the chassis legs at the front! again nothin to worry about!
