Engine Conversions..

Post by Mike_T »

Has anyone on the forum had an engine conversion on a Mk5 Polo?

I thinking perhaps out with the Polo GTi engine and in with a Golf 1.8T engine and a chip to get about 200 bhp.

Just wondered whether this is a nightmare conversion I image the gearbox, brakes, clutch and like must need an upgrade? Anyone one ever even looked into this and got a quote?

I've thought about having it done a few times but I'm in the middle of buying my first house so there's no chance.

Try Designa Dubs (don't know site address so type it in google) they've done a few conversions and there are a couple of people who've done this conversion on their Golf's etc themselves who can help on their forum, namely 89Ralleye (work in progress), TurboKid (see either Novembers or Decembers Golf magazine) and quite a lot more.

I've enquired about pricing, expect to pay at least £4,000 to have it done by sombody who knows what they're doing!

Why spend £2500 when you can get 175bhp using N02 for less than a grand?

I knew they didn't do a turbo kit for the GTi:

Hi John, no im sorry it dosen't cover the 1.6 16v, i think the Arosa 1.6 16V
must be a misstake. We can do a gasflowed head for you for £647 inc.vat and
other mods if your interested??

Cheers Ross.
