Doors not closing properly...common problem or not?

Post by tegwin »

Im having a bit of a problem with the GTI...

The passenger door requires a really good hard shove to make it close fully...So usually it takes a couple of attempts to close it...

Is this a common problem?

And is the door catch somehow adjustable so the door isnt so tight?

My passenger door sometimes does this. It is annoying i must admit. Anybody know why? If it's the door seals would the car start to leak in time?

no, the seal is just not on properly, you no if you want to run your head unit cables through to the back you have to pull up the seal to put them under the carpet, well sometimes in the corners of the door at the bottom it isnt pushed in fully! try that

if it still does it, you are able to take it down to a body shop that will quite happily adjust your door for you!

my passenger door needs a bit of a slam to shut it properly too, will have to do some adjusting this weekend along with moving the number plate lower and giving it a bloody good clean (weather permitting!)

Ive just noticed that my drivers door hinge-catch (the bit that stops your door opening too far) is moving slightly and tightened it up. open your door fully and look at that to see if that is moving. Tighten it u and see if that helps.

Try this - try and shut it lightly and then open it and open the drivers door and try to shut the passenger door again. Should close with the lightest touch. Something to do with air pressure in the car (can't remember who told me this at gti inters camp).

it's a nightmare isnt it?! I cleaned just my wheels last night as it can make the whole car look clean when it speeds by :)
