so i started looking for acciddent damage and and tapping for filler but no luck all original panels and no filler so i spoke to my good mate who works for a body shop and asked him why it would do this, he turned round and said that it looks like the car has been parked next to a bush and the previous owner has had a cheap paint job done to hide the problem. And as im polishing it its wearing down the lacquer. so not only dose my car look shagged coz of it i no longer want to drive it so im now debating to px it for either the new mk5 golf gti or the polo gti or get a complete respray.

scratches under the lacquer
after washing my car sat i thought a polish would make it sparkle so i cracked on after buffing it off i noticed that the paint work on the drivers side looked like someone had attacked it with a brillo pad loads of light scratches under the lacquer but only noticable in direct sun light
.

Sounds like holograms to me. My car has some from when I got it. Ususally down to a bad wash technique that scratches the laquer/clear coat. Should be sortable with a machine polisher.
I remember when I first got my car I thought there was rust on it. Turned out it was just tar...if left it can turn an orange colour

I've got a similar patch on my driver's door - only shows in odd sunlight but not all the time. looks as if the spray has been done at a different angle to the rest of the car.
can't see it at all when you look straight onto the panel. all very strange.
doesn't bother me too much - and I'm usually very picky! just enjoy the car mate
