Anyone know how to remove the cup holder without breaking it?

I need to remove the centre console but the last remaining screw is behind the cupholder!

Any ideas?

there are 2 tabs you need to push in where the red arrows are pointing then with the other hand pull the holder from the blue arrow part

How do you get to the two tabs? There's a big bit of plastic in the way!
Can you use your hands to unclip the tabs or do you need a tool?

push the top clip in with a screwdriver and pull the top then whilst still pulling move down to the bottom one and push with a screwdriver if you get what i mean or just get someone to help you and use 2 screwdrivers

just bought a new drinks holder to replace the sticky broken shabby old one. needed this threads help. cheers lads. im off to go try it, and hopefully not break my entire dash lol.

im absolutely loving the 9n3 gti centre console!!! might have to invest myself.

also, today just bought the full interior from a 2006 sport. it has the supportive style seat bases with the little lip at the front. the rear door cards have tweeters as well as the normal speakers. the back seat has 3 full sized 3point seat belts, 3 headrests and an armrest with draw. front seats have height adjustment and drawers!!! mint condition.... £190.... god bless ebay!!!

Photos to follow soon!

oh btw, can you believe, my 2003 1.2s has side airbags in the seats, but the seats i got today from a bloody 2006 sport dont have any for gods sake!! well annoyed.... there goes my upper body if someone crashes into me god forbid!

mate i just typed in polo interior, which didnt return any good results.... then i typed in polo seats.... this brought up about 300 results, including covers and stupid boy-racer sparco type nonsense... and i just started sifting through them. quite painstaking! Then i found these, advertised only as "polo seats 2006". The auction title and text was crap, the pictures were really bad, but i knew exactly wht they were, as i could see the print on the cloth. then i emailed the fella and asked about their condition. they were dirty, but structurally, and cloth wise, they were perfect. just valeted them up today... come out absolutely blinging. i am fitting them tomorrow. i am sure they'll add a whole new dimension to the car!

STILL REALLY PISSED OFF THAT SIDE AIRBAGS NOT THERE THOUGH!! garyuk, didnt realise they became optional...not like a german manufacturer to down-grade safety features. very surprising. does anyone know if my airbag light will come on, on my dash, because my new seats dont have airbags so the plug will be left unplugged under the seat???

oh btw, on another note:

above, in this thread, the tips to take out the drinks holder are for slightly newer polos. mine is 9n, but it is a mid-2003 model. the tabs are:

1) top right, accesible if radio is taken out as shown above
2) top left side, for which removing properly, you will have to remove the entire centre console, as there is no other way of getting to it
3) bottom, which can be accessed (kind of) by removing the plastic around the thermostat and vent controls, and removing the thermopanel by taking out the 2 torx screws.

the only real way to do it if you want to save your drinks holder is to somehow get to that top left one legitimately (imagine, the tab is just to the right of the dash where your passenger airbag is.. very tough to get to).

i didnt care about my old one, as i was trying to replace it anyway...... so i just snapped the thing to bits while still in the dash, using lots of tension with some flat thin screwdrivers!!!! try that at your own risk if youre brave enough. worked for me!

sounds like a bargain but there's no way I'd remove the side airbags just for better seats :(

interesting to know that VW don't do them as standard. pretty rubbish IMO. anyhow, I'm sure the new interior will make the car a nicer place to be

oh yeah, searching for "polo seats" is utter rubbish because it then pulls up all the SEAT stuff! aaaaargh! I've been there, done that :)

in honesty, after the valet they look brand new. might still sell em on and wait for some more to come up sometime soon with side airbags! this is not because i value side airbags so much, but because that airbag light will annoy the crap out of me!

Really sorry to resurrect an ancient thread, but I need to remove my current cup holder (broken) to replace a new one but i'm unsure what and how i need to remove from the centre console in order to get the cup holder out. Could someone point me towards any walkthroughs on here that could help me? I have a 2004 polo e, thanks.
