I've taken my car today to the garage to get the cambelt and water pump changed, as it's been overdue a tad on the car. I've left the locking wheel nut in the cigarette tray.
Came back in the evening picked up the car, then when near home realised that the locking wheel nut is missing.
First of all do they need to use the nut to remove the alloys when changing a cambelt?
2nd of all I've payed cash in hand, so I guess that leaves me with no entitlement to claim that the work was done there.
Also has anyone ever lost a locking nut and how expensive are they to obtain from VW?
Bugger, I can't find the code in the service book anywhere. It did look exactly the same as the one I had on my 8v. Is there any other way of getting a locking nut, without the code?
No idea, I've picked up the car just when they were about to close and only realised like 20 minutes later. Definitely going to give them a call first thing tomorrow.
i was gonna say i. took my car for its MOT and the locking nut was in the cigarette tray and they had to take the wheel off to bend a kink out of it where i hit a pothole, and i couldent find it for the life of me. turns out they had put it back in my car in the drivers door pocket.
my red polo never came with a locking wheel nut (2nd hand, 4got to check) and my local vw garage had no idea where to get one (useless!) once i got a puncture and managed to get it off with molegrips. when i took all the alloys off to put on my black car this mechanic managed to whip off all of the locking wheels nuts in about 5 seconds with an air gun - really theif proof!

its just a threaded socket with a reversed thread inside it. bites into the nut as it undoes it!
