Ouch **Pic on Page 2**

So I was on call last night until midnight (I work for Anglian Water on the Treatment side) and got a call at 11pm, it was a nice easy one so I thought I'd go and do it. Just involved taking the front off a pump, making sure it was clear then putting it back together (5 minute job)

I get there and the pump must have been well over 100 degrees C, start taking it apart as I normally do (have done it probably in excess of 100 times since I've worked there) and the next thing I know the water inside it is all over me after the front blew out

The skin on my left arm peeled instantly in a couple of places and my chest was all red, oh and it hurt like hell.

Now I'm off work for I don't know how long with a bandaged up arm

How did you get to the hospital etc etc? What caused the pump to blow out?


I know it might be a little early to think about this but as they say in our place:
Thats a claim........

The old man works at the same place so I gave him a bell and he came and got me, not too sure what made it blow out to be honest.

Like I say I've done them loads of times and nothing like that's ever happened, it was completely unexpected.

How come they get so hot? is that normal?
I mean if they are getting you to work on equipment that is that hot they should give you some sort of protective gear... shouldnt they?

I guess its still painful then?

Must of been quite a shock if you have done it soo many times before!!

They either get ragged up and carry on pumping because the chamber is still high, or they get air locked so aren't actually pumping anything.

It's not common for them to get as hot as that was last night though, the control room who call us out can only see that the chamber is high, they can't actually see the pump temp etc

Health and safety should have a field day if you are not issued or instructed to wear protective clothing whilst working on such equipment.

I hope mummy is looking after her injured soldier in due fashion.

btw how can you type with such serious burns on your chest and arms?

My hands are ok, and my right arm is pretty much ok it's mainly my left arm. Although the bit I've burnt doesn't need to move much when I type.
