Wheel Refurb Question

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of refurbing my RXII's and had a question about the polished rims...

Do I need to treat the rims in any way (I.E. apply a new laquer) or is simply polishing them enough?

I am just concerned how they will last if left untreated?

If you leave them unlaquered you can only use them in the summer (or when the roads aren't salted), or they'll get corroded pretty quickly. The benefit of doing this is that you can polish them up to a good shine every couple of weeks using autosol, or similar.

If you laquer them, you can run them all year round. But if the laquer does get chipped, you'll start getting the white corrosion that you probably have now, and the only way to get rid of that is to get the wheels refurbed again.

A bit of a pain in the ass all round, but that's the price you pay for a polished rim. The other alternative is to paint the rim - it doesn't look as good as polished but it's more hard wearing. Eventually tho corrosion will get under the paint.

pureklas have a laquer that can be applied to a polised rim - might be worth having a chat with them.

you can run polished rims all year round if u take the time to apply a protectant frequently.

I wouldn't bother laquering them again cos it'll just get f****d up. I polished my deep dishes and use poorboys wheel sealant, it's great stuff.

but your rh cups are laquered and diamond cut anyway...

no they're not sherlock - they were, but i refurbed the dish as the laquer was minced

Just polish them and use wheel sealant, would mean they're easier to correct later down the line

yea they are standard, but as with most polished wheels with big dishes, stones etc smash into the laquer in the dish and it spiders then goes milky

Isn't it better to run two set of alloys for the year? One for summer, another for winter. Is there anyone doing that? Or not many people can be bother with that?

I have 2 sets of wheels, a set of G60 Steels and the standard RXII's.

Although I might look at getting a second set of RXII's at somepoint so I can run them all year round but make sure 1 set stays perfect.
