Changing the headlights to Angel eyes?

Okay guys, apologies for starting another new thread but I was just wondering how do I go about changing the headlights?

The passenger side (O/S) headlight on my polo is seriously steamed up, the lens is almost completely white! It doesn't let hardly any beam out onto the road ahead with dipped beams on. So I thought why not take this opportunity to buy a new set?

I want to go for the black angel eyes for a smoked headlight effect but I wanted to know what other headlight options are out there. Anyone got silver polos with different headlights on so I can have a look?

Also what tools do I need for switching them as it seems like I may need to take the bumper off to fit the new lights on.

Took a couple of pics of mine m8, and yes you have to take off the bumper to put your angel eye headlamps in, i can`t take the credit for doing mine though as another member poloecosse fitted mine for me as i`ve not got a clue

Right I just ordered myself a set of Black angel eyes from ebay.

I presume I'll need to supply my own bulbs. The mainlights I believe are H7s but what sidelight bulbs do I get? I've looked on the Ultra LED site but not sure what size to get. Any help please?

cheers mate the headlights look great. I been looking on the club polo forum and a few people said they have condensation issues. Do you have the same problem with your lights? How do you solve this?

Not had any issues with condensation "yet" just make sure that the rubber covers are on correctly at the back of the lights so to minimize any air or moisture getting in cheers

Just bought some Phillips H7 +80% vision bulbs. A bit pricey but sound quite promising. All I need now are some LED sidelights but I dont know which ones to get for the angel eyes!

Also can I alter the level of the beam via the switch on the dash anymore? or wont that be a possibility now?

Yes m8 you can alter the level of the beam via the switch but you will have to adjust the lights manually to start with as once you fit them they are not correctly adjusted you just need an allen key to adjust them HTH

I was quite disappointed with the 80% bulbs. One of my mates just got them last week but it doesnt seem to be that much different from my +30% bulbs.

Last night I attempted to fit the lights but to no joy!

I took the front bumper off with the guide on the site (cheers sidaba?)

I then went on to remove the left hand headlamp and got it off but the connecting wire to the light was still attached and I couldn't get it off? Also after looking at the headlights on the angel eyes there looks like there's more wiring and I dont know what to do!

Is there a guide on here how to fit them? I need help

plus now I've fitted the bumper back on the bumper isnt flush with the headlight anymore.

The connecting wire on the original light unit will have a tab. There is a little gap where you can stick a flathead screwdriver in to help lever the tab and then just pull it using a bit of force. No damage will be caused if your careful!

The angel eye wiring one end fits to cars wiring loom and the other to the lamp. Then to power the angel eye a earth and +ve connection is required and a relay too iirc!

The bumper needs to be fitted carefully, you may have not allowed all the clips to go into the seats properly - easy enough to do! Either that or your bumper guides need adjusting/alignment. However this should not be neccesary if you didn't remove/loosen these after removing the bumper.

Thanks AK, I might have another crack at it tommorrow morning. The lights came with wires, a relay and wiring diagram, which looks straight forward enough. although how do i connect it to the battery? I mean all the metal pegs seems to be already connected up to something else. Does it make a difference?

Also on the headlamps, the main bulb section has this little red wire poking out of the back of it with a little red connector. This stops me from putting the weather cap on I'm not sure what it's for right now but i'll find out on the way, probably something that connects to the bulbs I think...

As for the bumper, I'll try and line it up properly next time I take it off.

If it all goes balls up again I'll have to pay someone to fit em on!

you dont need to fit the additional wiring and relay, ner done it on mine or on DAZZA_TDI's and they work fine

So you just plugged in the original wiring from the car into the new headlights and thats it? You didn't wire anything new in?

A standard sidelight bulb per side is 5w. By fitting a angeleye, each lamp has 10 1.2w bulbs so thats 12w per side. Whether the original wire would be able to handle that increase I'm not sure but I'd think the wiring/relay is supplied for a reason

Connecting to the battery is a matter of just bolting the red to +ve pole of battery and black to -ve. Which pegs do you mean?

well before taking the bumper and lights off i decided to disconnect the +ve wire but to do that i had to take the cover off the battery obviously. With this done, there was another panel with a number of metal pegs with other wires connecting to it. Other components that the car powers i presume. So i lifted up this second panel and there was the two +ve and -ve wires, which was where I disconnected it. What I was conmcerned about was the 2nd panel with a couple of rows of metal pegs like a panel. Just where do I connect the wires to if all the slots are taken up?
