swapping tailgate

Hi guys I may have sourced a new boot lid for my poor polo after it was struck by a chav wielding a sharp key, has anyone ever done this before? is it easy? and most importantly do you know where the connectors are to disconnect the wires that run into the car?

If you have a haynes manual you will get a step by step guide...

yeah i have no problem with buying that but i have to pull the thing off in a few hours, and unless you live next door that isnt going to happen lol

how much would you want for your old boot lid?
It's just that I just had some 4x4 cave in my bootlid the other week and the fix is not looking as good as it should, plus the boot is heavier so it's not going up properly and also I have to slam it to close it.
I'm pretty sure yours would fix up easy

Â£70? it's in mint condition bar the dent, the window is spotless too. Unfortunately my replacement isnt but i'd still sell it to you? where abouts are you?

take a look at the topic "bad day" or something in polo gti section for the damage to the boot, i was quoted Â£150 for a full repair including full boot respray, and that was the only place i asked..if your polo isnt black it would need respraying anyway so it makes very little difference lol

yeah my polo is silver so a full spray would be needed on the lid

the boot is coming off tomorrow, i assume you have your tailgate still to replace the lock? i have taken the lock out now which has gone in my new one..if that makes sense...so all you need to do is whack in your lock & stick on the car, me and alex perkins just did it...be careful when you take the lock out not to break any of the components, use a haynes manual!

I can meet halfway as soon as tomorrow if you like?

Do they unplug anywhere or do the wires/hoses have to be cut? I have to take mine off for the respray.

The central locking pump un plugs just before the rear door card, as does all the other cables on the other side of the car

Thats surprising - Sounds like VW made it relatively easy to replace, or is there any hidden levels of complexity. Only ask because so far whenever I've done something - whenever I think I'll only need to remove one set of screws, something else gets in the way

Yeah its fiddly though, to be honest I think most of the connectors can be unplugged behind the boot lining, but it probably wouldnt be easier to thread them back through the boot & through those rubber thingies stopping water getting in
