Polo GTI... want one, got one & now modded... Detailed..

Although your car is lovely. I was looking for a fully spec'd car ideally 5dr, I'd been looking at another loaded 5dr silver bird that deal fell through.

I had one ordered, but have instead found a loaded car not in my first choice of colour at a great price.

I've already picked it up and Its mega nice .

For starters the exhaust note is a bit better than I thought, it’s fairly loud. On the business end of things I can hear all the right bells & whistles. Plenty of room to access things like bulbs and fluids. It is still early days for mine, it is definitely getting quicker for each mile it is driven .7/10

It came with half a tank of Shell unleaded which I used up as quickly as I could, so that I could get Vpower in there. The difference is obvious to an extent in a couple of miles (usually takes a bit to adjust), if anyone's not running their GTI on Vpower. Do it now! 10/10

Handling wise its good fun, for normal use and normal spirited driving its ok. The ride can be crashy over rougher bits of road . The brakes still need bedding in, but I don’t think they're going to be up to much because the GTI can build up speed very quickly. Result loads of brakes dust. 7/10

Go Polo Go, ok there is some turbo lag. But considering the engine hasn't even opened up yet. Feels very quick - not fast fast, but quick. Without being biased the car really is fun to drive, like I said speeds up fast. It feels like a properly mechanically well put together car, steering is lovely and it’s so easy to drive. Its like baby car (my friend said that), even a baby could drive this thing. To all prospective owners, a remap would go down well with this, but it’s not necessary - there is plenty of grunt. 8/10.

Interior dash etc just like any other 9n or Polo except the clocks and silver trim. Some brushed alloy on door pulls, and somewhere else. Nice GTI door sills, saves buying them! I bought the car for the lovely leather seats, red stitching everywhere. I probably bought it for that, red stitching. Seats are very comfortable, supportive (firm), and the leather soft. Really get on well with Climate control. I got out at 6:30am to get these photos, and the heated seats do work. Even found a CD changer I wasn't expecting under the seat, the mp3 player is a nice touch, it’s getting used lots. Black headliner is a nice touch, makes a lot of difference 9/10.

Grin and wellness factor, absolutely fantastic. A lot of people look at in admiration (well most can hear it coming), smile and some give it two thumbs up (well I hope someone who is driving doesn't). 10/10.

What I don't like - it should have been slightly lower and the outside of it isn't doing too much for me (probably the colour). But hey I love the car already. I extremely hate curbing my temptation to start modding it full on, thought I'd leave this one alone. But I've already started ordering bits, and suspension isn't one of them yet - so I guess I'm on track .

very nice mate, same spec as mine bar mine has i pod not the cd changer and i have a sunroof and only 3 doors

they are great cars, i love mine to pieces, so much so iv bought another car so i can keep it nicer

see the spec in my sig for mods iv done and rest assured mine really handles and absolutely flies now haha

Nice motor fly, and I agree with you on the early ownership scores you have put in there. I've had mine all of two months now and only done about 300 miles! Only things I've changed so far are wheels and a shorted ariel to clear my garage door.
Re-map was going to be my first point of call originally but I have to agree with you that the car actually feels okay in standard tune. I've owned two 1.8t's previous to this one and my SEAT version had more power to start with, yet the Polo feels more responsive than the other two as standard ( I remapped both of them though early on into my ownership and probably will do this one too eventually). Really not keen on the suspension settings though, Skoda have a better set up on the Fabia vRS ( I used to own one of those) which handled okay but wasn't at all crashy. The crashy suspension is one of the things that put me off a mk5 Golf GTI ( in addition to the astronomical cost and bulkiness of the car) which is supposed to be pretty civilised.
I must get my arse in gear and put up some photos of my car sometime I suppose.

Despite no mods attitude for this car, I've started again . Firstly it got revo's trial map at the uk-mkivs Mega meet.

Once I got driving on the trail for a bit I realised just how difficult it would be driving around town with thumps of boost at once.

I knocked on APR's door for a trial of their map, but instead just went for the APR map and APR diverter valve to keep this new found power reliable. Wow, its really nice to drive now, and though the boost comes quickly it is more progessive and the power tails off all the way to the end.

I'm still waiting on a few other bits I've ordered.

Hahaha, you need to get out and drive yours a bit more. I've already done 600 miles since my last post...boy does it love guzzling Vpower. Taking it easier for now .

For those who don't have the APR map. Do it, do it .

Lol glad ur enjoying it! I got my APR remap in june and am still loving every second of it! Vpower does get guzzled VERY quickly! But also worth it!

Look what the post man bought over. I thought it was my imagination because the door bell rang at 7:48am

Fairly straight forward to fit, what a sqeeze though . All in took me 15 mins to laze around, and 10 mins to fit .

I haven't driven the car post intake install...probably soon will .

good work on the engine mods so far, i have them and am loving it

next step for me now with already having the high flow downpipe cat and exhaust and a filter is to front mount my car and get apr stage 2

but i may just front mount it and leave the upgrade map as i dont want it to become unreliable as like it is now it never misses a beat

Back in October I bought the Polo a turbo back Milltek. As you can see that didn't fit very well.




Shortly after a trip to Milltek's sorted the problem, thanks for your help and sending the photos then Jeff.



This summer got some rim'age

Then some lower'age - thanks KC for helping me through this.








The suspension has now settled a bit more, I really should take out the front wheel arch liner bolts.

Next is FMIC install - date TBC. This has held me back for ages already, otherwise I would have done these things time ago. Thereafter brakes (i might wait for them to wear out first), and the rest of suspension/chassis mods.
