It could be anything without you being more descriptive....

Could be the nock sensor playing up, a faulty throttle valve, blocked injectors...Or a whole host of other things..

Sounds a bit weird considering you changed the plugs and leads. Faulty ignition coil/distributor?

Admittedly this was on a 1L Polo, but there is the same sensor on the top of the block on a GTI. We changed this after similar symptoms on my Girlfriend's car and it solved the problem. Its the sensor literally on top of the block.

I have this trouble now and again with my GTI. It's only very slight but noticeable. I put my foot down the other day on the dual and the car seemed to pull back a little bit, thought it was very strange. Plugged VAG-COM but no faults found. Also sometimes I think my car misfires a tiny bit, not all the time though. what can that be? I've changed plugs and HT leads, VW leads and super bosch 4's plugs.

What i do with situations like this is change the obvious, which you have done. Then book it into a vw specialist because sometimes for what it costs it isn't worth stressing about .
