ive had my gti now for 1 year and want to make it that little bit more unique than the standard. im totally new to forums and want some advice on what you guys think is a good place to start. im lookin to add a little extra power and grunt. open to any suggestions

Welcome.

The biggest question really is how much money you have to spend and how fast you want to go!

Best place to start is probably with a good quality induction kit. A lot of people here, including myself use the BMC one. Debateable how much extra power it gives, if any, but it does improve responsiveness with a decent cold air feed, and sounds fantastic.

After that you're next stop might want to be a less restrictive exhaust system, of which the options are endless, and I'm sure others here will be able to help you in the right direction.

Aside from performance stuff, lowering is probably a good thing to have top of your list. Improves looks, handling and theres a good number of low priced options that are avaliable.

The possibilities are endless really. Have a look in the Members Rides section as that shows just what can be done with the GTi.

de-badging your rear
headlamp protectors
ice white bulbs all round
sounds system and other ICE
audi TT pedals
rear door handles on the front for the de-locked approach
sill protectors
centre caps
LHD drivers side stubby mirror
B&M short shifter
lower rear strut brace
front strut brace
black rear view mirror
sunglasses holder
black badges front or back
