my polo's life story - coilies fitted new pics

Post by shantybeater »

Thought it was about time I made one....for anyone interested

Hmm where to start, I bought my little polo in october last year, off some kent dealer! mileage was 47k..I think I paid a little over the normal asking price but I was desperate and I had my heart set on a 3 door in black!

Once I had driven down the road the car stalled at the lights  she started up with a bit of a fuss...then didnt miss a beat the whole way home so I put it to the back of my mind.

After many hours spent on uk-p reading posts of the cambelt failures I went into town to pick up some friends, the car then stalled again...followed by the engine management light, panic set in after I decided it was the cambelt so I got my mate to tow me to VW which was to say the least pant wetting!

The problem ended up being a dirty speed sensor, cost something like a tenner, but to be safe I got the cambelt done as well at a stealer.

I decided priorites for my first mod were the wheels, they were a state, kerbed to pieces & bad corrosion

So after several months of searching I managed to get some 16" RXII's brand new with new dunlop tyres for £606 off ebay. Also found some red tape for the grill so gave that a go:

then the car went to its first show at santa pod!

unfortunately the tyres were the wrong size on the rims & I became really interested in the wide look, so did a straight swap for some BBS RM's, slapped some new tyres on all round.

Since then I've
- Given the brake calipers & engine bay a re-paint
- Replaced my tailgate after someone keyed it
- Took it in for a 60k service, new brake discs/pads all round amoung other things
- Painted RM centers silver and replaced a cap
- Fitted my old boot build & a new head unit

and thats it...sorry to bore everyone haha, just want a thread to update with mods in the future, slow and steady progress as I'm a student and money is an issue lol

My coilies are going on in 3 days so will update with photos when decked!

Looking better with each step, it seems that pretty much all of GTi owners have setbacks in ownership! I've never seen that photo posted at Santa Pod, can see me and my mate dozing off in my car after such an early start! Get those RMs widened and you'd be looking at some very nice wheels.

Oh man, we were so shattered that day, I remember we fell asleep then some little girl came banging on the window. "Dadddyyy!! Nice car Dadddy!!" Man that brought severe headaches. The plans sound good, 8s on the back would give you a nice stance, 8.5" though are the way to go.

8.5s wouldn't rub if you run them on 195/45/15s and drop it about 70. Anything past that is pushing it, but you can always roll the arches.

If it scrubs get your arches rolled, thats what I did because although my wheels are only 7.5, they have a low ET and there was a fair bit of scrubbage. As for lowness, go really low to start with but you may end up raising it a bit when you get fed up of going over speedbumps at 1mph and mullering rabbits with your splitter (or should that be rabbits mullering your splitter)!
