Hi
Fitted my subs and amp into the car on sunday but i have a wee problem, with the standard vw stereo/changer sounds perfect when car is not running but as soon as u switch the engine on u can hear the engine through the subs but when i fitted an aftermarket HU it was ok there was no noise of the engine it was perfect!!

You should use the special preamp output from the radio - that will stop the noise problems.
The ground point should be ok there, but just ensure theres no other ground s connected to that. There is another behind where the boot light is if thats any use to you in case you need a different point, or even onto the spare wheel well.
The cable for the radio to do the preouts is this one:
