Soon to be back, behind the wheel of a GT

Post by hardhitter »

Since taking my blue gt off the road at the start of december, not driving it has given me withdrawal symptoms.
Using the parents 306 has not satisfied my driving needs, and I needed a fix...
So I bought myself another gt about two weeks ago.
It came minus the engine, gearbox and wiring loom. It's complete and in very good order, considering it's been standing for a year.
This week I have been removing the rust from the battery compartment, ready for welding.
Next week the engine should be in and hopefully running.

I cant wait

Good job we had that random conversation about the GT engine on Ebay a few months back and bought it! Weird how things turn out?!

Dan's new GT is pretty tidy, will be a nice car once the low mileage engine's in and the battery tray is welded up. I've got some pics of Dan's GTs and my car on his drive - will post em up when they're developed, old skool camera!

Can't wait to see it running Dan, then ya can come and help me get me G back on the road... :D

Yeah, I'm very glad we decided to bid for that engine on ebay. Good idea to go halves on it mate.
It's getting a new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, plugs, oil & filter etc when it goes in, like a 60 k service.
Got to weld in the new piece of metal for the battery compartment, as I cut the old rust out.
Then the engine wiring loom and fuel supply will be plumbed in. Then the engine is ready to be dropped in.

Not long now :)

Hi Mike, hows it going mate ?

Yeah, it's coming along very well. It's up and running now, just got a few bits to sort here and there before the MOT.

It's taken a lot longer and cost more than I first expected, but it should be worth it.

I will try and get some pics of it soon.

one of my fave pics took me ages to clean the engine bay before the respray, but i'm glad i did!

its got a GT engine in there now on digipants, i've also got a 1.6 AEE engine in the garage, i'm toying with different forced induction ideas but the 1.3 is stayin in for now as its running ok.

can't wait to get it finished, getting back to the topic subject, i havent driven anything since march 2002 - its not been easy!

Good news.

Got it MOT'd this morning and it passed ! I didnt expect it to pass, so I was pleasantly suprised.
Brought it home and got the tax sorted this afternoon. Got a few small bits to tidy up here and there, but it's pretty good.

I'm very pleased to be driving a polo again :D
