Should I get it colour coded?

Post by alexperkins »

Hi all,

Need some opinions. After seeing a load of GTIs and that yesterday at PoloShow, it makes me want to get all mine colour coded so it looks even better.

What do you guys think?

Here is what is looks like before and after:

I was going to say... if you intend to smooth the front and rear bumpers at any point in the future, do it before spending your money on colour-coding the bump strips. Otherwise it is just throwing away money IMHO.

Best bet mate is to look out on eBay and at breaker's yards for red GTis being broken, and snap up the bump strips from them for next to nothing!

Also, colour-code the centres of your RX2s red 8) just a thought...

Cheers

I was gonna do the RX2 centres red originally, but i have a small secret up my sleve for the winter....all will be revealed in due course!!!!

Breaker yard for a red GTI would do just the trick may have to keep on the look out.

Smoothing is a step too far for me. I wouldnt want to do it, purely becuase of the fact it may crack and Id have to start again from square one!

Im gonna see how much work want for the strips brand new (was something like £150 before i started working at VW )

The only reason it would crack is if like me, you hit someone.

Either that or a dodgy bodyshop, any good bodyshop should be competent enough to smooth it and have it stay smooth forever.

Dont colour code those strips anyway.... the paint will just flake off eventually. unless you go about removing the textured finish, which would afford you a GTi by the time your done!

Breakers as someone said earlier... but the GTi wasnt the only colour coded one, plenty of 1.4's and TDi's were colour coded too. Or just buy the primed rubstrips from VW.

(take the GTi badge off by the way)
