exactly, the only reason premiums are high is because of careless young drivers (statistically) and uninsured drivers.
thanks to all the older folks who drive polos and keep it low :)

LOL..... You have got me wrong.

I pay insurance and Pay a Sh** load just because i live in london. I could have done what a few mates of mine have done and said i live in the countryside to get it cheaper. Or i could have not insured the car.

But no, i have insured my car.. but when i 1st started out the car was worth £500 a peugot 1 litre... and i had to pay just under £2000... i dont know how you can say thats fair????

But you just said you haven't declared your mods which is as good as not having insurance.

If you have an accident and their surveyors check your car out then they'll turn around and void the insurance.

And Jarno, please don't comment like that just to rub in how much we get overcharged

sorry there, I'm just shocked to hear that you guys have to pay more insurance when you put on some nice lokkin'alloys  I really don't understand the logic of that at all. It's not like I'l be speeding through a child-invested neighborhood after I fitted different rims, or do you Brittish do? (which I doubt, but it sounds like your insurance companies do think that you do or something  :( )

I don't know how they work mate, we have certain companies who don't charge extra but a lot of others do.

But if we crash, they'll fix it with standard parts, so we pay loads extra but don't get our 'modified' parts put back on

from wat ive heard the reason insurance goes up if u declare your mods is because they believe it makes it more appealable to theifs.

as for the quotes: im with tescos and drive a 1 litre 6n2 polo. alloys lowered badgeless grill rear lights induction kit splitter and im 23 with about 4 years no claims and i am paying about £550 fully comp.

All styling mods cost more cos they're appealing to TWoCers. Think risk analysis on the suspension should make it cheaper for me, lowered 100mm in London means I drive around my local area less then 15mph and to a stop over speed bumps! Total opposite to speeding cos I got performance upgrades.

An insurance broker also told me bout changing parts won't increase its value just the way it won't much when selling the car on. Furthermore, if you declare things like lights which woud cost you £150, they'll only increase the cars value by £10 cos'v it so where's the justice?

Admit our insurance premiums are sky hi cos'v young moronic twits but insurances also need to understand that most modded cars are our pride and would never drive irresponsibly.

AND Jarno I just wanna ring your neck

Haha Jarno, you lucky sod. Yea well I just have a few mods and I might call a Vdub specialist insurance company who insurmost mods for free...I've seen some adverts in various PVW magazines. I dunno how much extra it will cost but I'm 22, and I only drive a 1.4CL so it shouldn't be that high. Mind you, I've been driving for less than a year.

i got to start looking into insurance as mines due pretty soon and I know it'll cost more then £1000.

1.4 8v's ain't too bad so should be lucky.
No wonder jarno can carry out so many performance mods etc, insurance companies ere'l do you with superglue just for adding an induction kit let alone manifolds...etc After insurance payments i'v got nothing left to fund mods, need to plan and save months before get a mod!!!

I can't believe what I'm reading!!!

I knew insurance in the UK was somewhat expensive (every commercial on british tv is about car insurance, etc) but to almost twice the price of the car you own...!

And paying extra for everything you add to the car. For me, here in sunny Lisboa, Portugal that's surreal!

I don't have a cheap insurance (extras, young driver, etc) but i pay about 470 €uros a year for it. My father, who already has 20 years of driving pays the same for his SUV.

But before you say its all sweet here.... It is illegal to do any change to the car in Portugal. If the car didn't came with that out of the factory, you just can't change it. That means coilovers, taillights, exhaust, not to mention messing with the engine.

Of course you will see a lot of tuned cars (by portuguese standards), but in a police road stop, you get into a lot of troube and hassle!

Thats pretty retarded too but atleast by saving on insurance you can get a more powerful car, which may keep you happy for a bit before yurning to put mods on.

I'm stuck with a 1.4 cos the insurance is so steap
Had a 1.4 8v with 1yrs no claim; the same insurers didn't insure me when lost the no claims and got a 1.4 16v- just a direct 'feck off'

Right guys, my new policy starts today, its costing me £200 LESS than churchill and they dont charge extra for mods. Well, not alloys, suspension or induction kit! They're call HIC, and they basically use other companys to find you the cheapest quote. £709 (direct debit, 640 one off) and thats with just 1 years NCB and a TS10. I'm pretty chuffed...

I did a quote with endsleigh and they said they do upto 5 mods and thats it but charge on top, won't be doing it with them then!

Your quote seems decent so I might try them, I however have 0 NCB, 2 accidents (1 my fault) and 3 new points. Wish me luck, hoping it'll be around £1100 before declaring mods if they'll let me.
