Buying Car Parts

Post by TheEggShell »

Hi folks,

I need to get hold of a few parts for my Polo GTi (a temperature sensor, a rear shock, and some new centre caps).

Does anyone know a good place to get parts from (other than the stealers)?

Also...

Has anyone changed the temp sensor before? I have heard it is easy to do but I just need some reassurance :)

euro car parts are usually pretty good. have a moan when they tell you the price, and they usually knock 10 to 15 percent off it :)

Temp sensor is easy to do :) I think its even in the haynes manual!

To put it simply....the temp sensor is the green sensor on the side of the engine (it might be on the front I cant remember on the GTI) but basically it has green housing :)

Cheers Alex!

I don't suppose you know the part number of the temp sensor do you?

Also, I have heard that you need to top up the coolant after replacing the temp sensor. Do you know where I do that and what coolant/water mix I need to use?

I will find it for you shortly :)

Its VW G9 coolant. Comes in a big bottle with a purple cap. Dilution on it is 50:1 So a dribble of coolant, and a load of water :)

You top it up into the expansion chamber on the top right of the engine.

:S It says on the bottle it needs diluting  Full concentrated coolant isnt good for the engine - its too thick!
