OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. Or put another way use the VW Part. You don't need a new plug just a new Sump Washer. You should be able to get this from Euro Car Parts or similar (I'd expect German Swedish French do similar (GSF).
I used Castrol Edge last time I changed my Oil, it was 5W30 if I remember right - thats the Longlife stuff. But I reckon I'll still service as regular just want to see if I can keep it ticking over as well as possible. I paid about £25 - 30 but that was on a Halfords Trade account.

Lol...Thanks..I know what "OEM" means... What I meant was, did anyone know the plug code...
I went to my motor factors with an old plug and they sell the exact same plug but without the VW logo on it....Exactly the same NGK model number and specification...
Spent pretty much all afternoon...Managed to bleed the brakes, change engine and gearbox oil, fit new filter (which incidentally is fiddly)...and put a new air filter in as well as new plugs.
Whilst I had the engine tray out I patched up some cracks in it with aluminium sheet and rivets....

old post i know, but i have this service planned for the weekend. and have a few questions please! which gearbox oil did you use? was it from vw? how much? also how fiddly is the oil filter to change? any tips? which spark plugs did you go for in the end? ive already got engine oil (went for castrol magnatec 10w40) and a filter from vw. going to get gearbox oil and plugs after work today. will also have a look at cleaning the throttle body while im at it. is there much differance in carb cleaners? recommendations/price? where from?
any advice would be good, cheers.

It's 3.2L of oil for the engine BTW
The grade your after is 10W40 semi, i buy mine in 25L drums i change the oil that often
and i change the filter every other oil change.
I think the hardest thing about changing the oil is getting the splash guard off and not making a mess lol
Gearbox, i got told by the dealers they are sealed for life
